Location:

Grades 8th - 12th
Cost: $

Minimum deposit $325 Join us for the Japanese Arts & Media themed two-week credit program this summer. This session will not only focus on Japanese language skills, but also on various types of Japanese art ranging from traditional calligraphy and flower arrangement to modern forms of mass media like anime and film. Villagers will be encouraged to expand their creative horizons along with their linguistic ability in order to learn new skills and create art that will deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture. This program is accessible to all language levels, but villagers ideally should have an interest in creating art along with learning about the history and scope of Japanese art. This program is the equivalent of one semester of high school credit, or one half Carnegie unit. High school credit sessions are designed for villagers entering grades 9 and up in Fall 2026. This session is open to students who already have some comprehension of spoken Japanese and are able to read and write in hiragana. It is not designed for true beginners, who are welcome to join the previous session beginning June 22.

Minimum registration fee $150 Our one-week programs are perfect for villagers who are ready to experience an overnight camp but can't fit a longer program into busy summer schedules, or aren't quite ready for a longer time away from home. These programs provide an opportunity to explore the language through small and large group learning activities and immersive daily experiences. Plus, you'll get to do all the fun arts, crafts, games and cultural exploration of the Language Village camp experience, along with traditional summer camp activities like campfires, singing songs, and making new friends. These programs welcome language learners of all levels. In order to provide Spanish program options for as many villagers as possible, we will offer three additional Spanish one-week overnight sessions (starting June 29, July 6, and July 13) which will be housed in cabins at the Swedish Village site. This site is a 10-minute walk from the Spanish Village. These cabins will only include Spanish villagers. Meals and the majority of program activities during the day will take place at the Spanish Village alongside villagers in our two- and four- week programs. Villagers who register for these one-week programs should plan to be dropped off at the Swedish Village on their first day of camp in order to move into their cabins.
