About the Village

The Portuguese-speaking world spans the globe - from Portugal to Brazil, from Mozambique to Timor Leste and beyond! At Mar e Floresta in the North Woods of Minnesota, we draw on diverse cultures and traditions as we learn the world’s sixth most widely spoken language. Enjoy traditional foods like top-it-yourself Rodizio de Pizza and Bibingka (baked rice cake). Learn traditional drumming, paint your own máscaras (masks) and hone your skills on the futebol (soccer) field. From the time you wake up in the morning to the time you go to bed at night, you’ll find yourself engaged in a variety of community and cultural activities, all geared toward listening, speaking and eventually even starting to think in Portuguese.
