Join other college students for a week of immersion in Russian at Concordia Language Villages, located in the beautiful North Woods of Minnesota where our site is set against the scenic Turtle River Lake in Bemidji, MN. You will also earn one (1) college-level credit issued by Concordia College. Participants will build and enhance their language skills through small and large group learning activities, and by hearing and using the language - with the encouragement of our supportive staff - throughout their daily activities. By engaging in a variety of music, arts, sports and classic summer camp-type activities like campfires, singing songs, and more, students can increase their confidence and improve their language ability. These programs welcome Russian language learners of all levels! At Lesnoe Ozero, Лесное озеро, you’ll experience living in another language and participate in cultural activities from a variety of countries and cultures where Russian is widely spoken. These cultural activities combined with other methods of instruction will build your language skills in Russian. Imagine designing your own nesting matryoshka doll or Ukrainian pysanky (Easter egg); exploring music such as Tuvan throat-singing, Tchaikovsky and the three-stringed balalaika; or developing your culinary talents by cooking blini (crepe-style pancakes) or hachapuri (Georgian cheese bread). In addition, the North Woods setting is perfect for participants to hike beautiful trails near Turtle River Lake, join together for an evening campfire, or even visit the Headwaters of the Mississippi River located in Itasca State Park! FORMAT: Language instruction through a variety of immersive experiences and activities combined with classroom-type instruction. WHO CAN ENROLL? Current undergraduate students. All levels welcome. There are no prerequisites. CREDITS: Cost includes one (1) college/university credit from Concordia College About the Instructor: Tatiana Likhacheva Tatiana is the lead instructor for the Concordia Language Training Center Russian immersion programs. She holds a degree in Foreign Language Teaching from Northern (Arctic) Federal University in her hometown of Arkhangelsk, Russia, where she taught all levels of Russian in winter and summer immersion programs for international students for six years. She taught at Lewis & Clark College in Oregon through the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program. She is passionate about creating inclusive, engaging, and culturally rich learning environments that inspire students to communication with confidence and curiously about the Russian-speaking world.
