Swedish Virtual Language Village

Välkommen till Sjölunden! Sjölunden is our virtual Swedish language and cultural immersion program. Learn the language and the culture of the country that is one of the most ‘connected’ countries in the world…is as big as Spain or California…features some of the best northern lights in the world…is the home of popular music, cars, and furniture…serves up scrumptious comfort foods…and has not fought a war in 200 years — all virtually! Experienced and native speakers will help you live the language of one of the world’s most prosperous and progressive countries.

Learn Swedish

Sjölunden’s Virtual Village began in 2020 and allows villagers to learn Swedish all year round. From one-week sessions in the summer to clubs during the academic year, villagers are able to be immersed in the Swedish culture and language from the comfort of their home.

Have fun learning everyday Swedish you can really use with friends and in games, arts, sports, cooking, baking, environmental, historical and cultural activities.

Enhance your language skills with active learning! At a Sjölunden Virtual Village session, you may learn by singing songs, creating art and playing sports and games.

Activities are based in Swedish culture and utilized to further villagers’ language acquisition.

Tech Requirements

In order to best take advantage of this interactive experience, you will need the resources necessary for e-learning (reliable internet access, a device per villager with a webcam and microphone) and any individual adaptive devices needed; headphones are recommended but not required. Use of Chromebooks is not recommended as villagers cannot access all the features of the Virtual Village platform. As a program of Concordia College, we are coordinating our efforts with the college so that all virtual platforms will have the necessary and appropriate security features to protect the privacy of users, including compliance with FERPA and COPPA.
