Our Promise

Make a Promise at Skogfjorden

We all do our very best to make Skogfjorden the ideal place to prepare ourselves for responsible global and courageous citizenship through living the Concordia Language Villages mission and creating a safe, inclusive space where everyone is free to belong and be understood. This is accomplished through the Skogfjorden promise, or Skogfjordenløftet.

Below, you can read the promise yourself, both in Norwegian and English:

While acting on the Skogfjorden Promise, you will find your place in the world through connections with Norway. That’s an enterprise Norway’s king, Kong Harold V, has noticed and prized. As a noble Skogfjordenridder (Skogfjorden knight), your growing cultural understanding, circle of friends, and Norwegian peace-building skills will help you discover (1) who you are and (2) all you have to offer the world and our bright, shared future.

His Majesty King Harald V of Norway granted royal patronage to Skogfjorden, the Norwegian Language Village. Patronage as an affirmation from the Royal Family of Norway of the quality educational programming of Concordia Language Villages.

In 2009, Tove Irene Dahl, the dean of Skogfjorden, was named a Knight of the First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit by His Majesty King Harald V of Norway for the advancement of Norwegian language and culture in the United States.

Upon receiving the award, Tove said it was recognition of all aspects of Skogfjorden and its continued connections to Norway.  She continues to challenge all villagers and staff to embody the ideals of a Skogfjordenridder (Skogfjorden knight) both at and beyond the village.
