While the formal instruction in classes is important, equally important are the opportunities to interact with Americans on field trips and excursions. The Concordia College campus is within walking distance of several museums, including the Hjemkomst Center and the Rourke Art Museum. Students also typically attend a live theater production in the community, visit the zoo, visit garage sales, and celebrate Halloween (in July!). In recent years, students have done service learning projects with Churches United for the Homeless, Dorothy Day Food Pantry, and Eventide Care. Students are out in the community, practicing their English in authentic situations, everyday - whether buying stamps at the post office or ordering food in a restaurant or cheering on the RedHawks at a baseball game.
