Optional Responsibilities

The following responsibilities may be added to previously listed positions with an additional stipend as determined by the dean (Note: These positions may not exist at all programs and sites and responsibilities vary from program to program). Discuss your interest in these positions with the dean during the interview process.

Assistant Waterfront Manager

Must have current Waterfront Lifeguard certificate supporting CPR and FA certificates and be at least 19 years old.

  • Assist waterfront manager as part of regular counselor assignment

Bank Manager

  • Supervise daily villager banking activities and assist business manager with maintenance of staff accounts
  • Coordinate opening and closing-day banking operations (opening accounts and bank out)
  • Use the target language at all times with the villagers, and use the bank as a language-learning vehicle
  • Prepare an inventory of foreign currency
  • Assist business manager with town runs.

Environmental Awareness Program Leader

  • Identify appropriate environmental awareness activities for villagers (ages 7-18) and integrate them into Concordia Language Villages format
  • Identify materials needed for such activities in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Teach and supervise environmental activities at the Village
  • Conduct staff training in environmental awareness
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of appropriate materials at the end of the contracted time

Ethnic Arts Program Leader

  • Identify appropriate ethnic art projects for villagers (ages 7-18) and formulate an arts curriculum
  • Identify and/or create materials needed for ethnic art projects in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Set up and supervise the maintenance of a safe and functional work space for the staff and villagers
  • Teach and supervise ethnic art activities as they fit into the total Village curriculum
  • Conduct staff training in art and cultural projects
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of Village art materials at the end of the contracted time

Ethnic Dance Program Leader

  • Create dance activities for villagers (ages 7-18) and integrate them into Concordia Language Villages format
  • Develop a dance curriculum and identify and/or create costumes and props needed for the activities in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Teach and supervise dance activities as they fit into the total Village curriculum
  • Provide and conduct staff training in dance
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of costumes and props at the end of the contracted time

Ethnic Music Program Leader

  • Identify appropriate ethnic music projects for villagers (ages 7-18) and integrate them into Concordia Language Villages format
  • Develop a music curriculum and identify and/or create materials needed for music projects in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Teach and supervise music activities as they fit into the total Village curriculum
  • Provide staff training in music
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of Village music materials and instruments at the end of the contracted time

Ethnic Sports Program Leader

  • Identify appropriate ethnic sports for villagers (ages 7-18) and integrate them into Concordia Language Villages format
  • Develop a sports curriculum and identify materials needed for sports activities in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Set up and monitor safe playing areas and conditions for sports/games activities
  • Teach and supervise sports/games activities as they fit into the total Village curriculum
  • Provide staff training in new games and other sports and games
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of Village sports equipment and materials at the end of the contracted time

Global Perspectives Program Leader

  • Identify appropriate global activities for villagers (ages 7-18) and integrate them into Concordia Language Villages format
  • Identify materials needed for such activities in consultation with the dean or staff counselors
  • Teach and supervise global activities in the Village
  • Conduct staff training in global awareness
  • Supervise final cleanup and inventory of appropriate materials at the end of the contracted time

In-Village Transportation Manager

  • Assist business manager with villager transportation
  • Coordinate opening- and closing-day villager transportation operations
  • Verify villagers’ transportation lists
  • Maintain accurate transportation lists
  • Be responsive to communication from Village Support Services and the Transportation Department
  • Use the Village Travel Bureau as a language-learning vehicle
  • Other transportation-related duties as assigned

Lifeguard

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold current lifeguard certification with natural bodies of water module from American Red Cross or equivalent
  • Hold current certification in First Aid and CPR for the professional rescuer
  • Perform guard duties as outlined in Concordia Language Village’s Waterfront Manual
  • Cooperate with the waterfront manager and other guards to provide surveillance of people using the aquatics area.
  • Assist in maintaining a low-risk aquatic program and activity area.
  • Follow and enforce the policies and procedures in the Waterfront Manual

Research Assistant

  • Work under the supervision of a researcher and/or the dean of a Village
  • Assist in preparing research projects
  • Assist in data collection
  • Assist in data analysis
  • Assist in ensuring research integrity and participant privacy
  • Other research-related duties as assigned

Store Manager

  • Maintain and submit beginning and ending inventories to the Village business manager
  • Use the target language at all times with the villagers and use the store as a language-learning vehicle
  • Submit daily sales reports to the business manager and return currency to the bank daily
  • Stock shelves and create good displays of merchandise
  • Create and maintain a cultural atmosphere in the store
  • Assist the dean with purchasing, pricing and reordering supplies and in recommending new items

Technology Program Leader

  • Set up and supervise the technology equipment and work areas in your Village for staff and villagers
  • Supervise production of the Village Production Page on the Web, a Village-specific site developed by villagers and/or staff
  • Ensure appropriateness (copyright, Village policies, etc.) of all products using technology
  • Identify appropriate technology projects for villagers (ages 7-18)
  • Conduct staff training in technology
  • Serve as Village liaison with the Technology Support staff
  • Be responsible for final inventory and return of technology equipment at the end of the contracted time
  • Other technology-related duties as assigned
