This is what our first cabin looked like inside before the beds were installed. Yes, those are reading lights that will go above each bed!
Here is the cabin as seen from outside, following a heavy April snow.
We are so thankful to the Berglund family for their gift of the Weaving Studio.
The Weaving Studio in winter.
Hilma Berglund was a life-long weaver, co-founder of The Weavers´ Guild, and a world adventurer to boot! We dedicate our weaving studio to the memory of this amazing woman.
Vi presenterar en kort Invignings video!
...And we present a short video of the dedication.
In 2006, we broke ground on Sjölunden, the Swedish Language Village. The first phase of construction is now underway, thanks to the generous support of several indivudal donors as well as private foundations.
To the right is the architectural drawing of the village, entering from the south (from the Salolampi site). On the right is the weaving studio, and on the left is the first residential cabin. Construction is now beginning on the Sailing Supply House and the first residential cabin! Hurrah!
Check out our Vävstuga Video to see the inside of the Weaving Studio in action!
Back in February 2007, the windows were installed and they started finishing off the interior.
On the left is an aerial view of the Sjölunden building plan. The buildings with the green roofs are the first 2 buildings being built. When complete, the site will have 3 cabins, a boat house, dining hall, library and staff housing.
This view shows the library on the left, dining hall in the center and the staff housing on the right. This view is from the west (lake).
Here's the weaving studio on the day that the roof was put on. Mid-January, 2007.
And now, August 2007, the boathouse is nearly finished!
