Hej, jag heter Aina. Vad heter du?

One of our favorite morning songs is:

Hej hopp!

Hej hopp hopp hopp! Det är topp topp topp-en!

Här på Sjölunden!

Det är so so soligt, ro ro roligt!

Här på Sjölunden!

Solen skin skin skiner, fin fin finare (vissla)

här på Sjölunden!

Här i vår egen lilla svenska by, sjunger vi EN GÅNG TILL!

God morgon, Sjölunden!

We start the day off at 8:45 raising the flag (flagga).

Then it's off to FRUKOST (breakfast) where a group of ledare are ready to present the mat we will eat for frukost. Today it was musli, banan, och muffins. The matpresentation was a reenactment of Little Red Riding Hood (Rödluvan) except backwards!!

Can you guess which ledare is mor, Vargen, och Rödluvan?

Oi!!!! Här kommer Vargen!

Akta Rödluvan!

Here is the song we sing before we eat. It means "We hope that there is peace on earth and food for all children."

Here is our daily schedule!

Every day after we eat we talk about what day it is and go over our "dagens fras," which means our daily expression.

Today's expression was "Det duger," which means "That's good enough."

Greta announces that it's time to clear the tables and sing the famous Plastlåda sång.

Congrats to all our villagers celebrating 5 years at Sjölunden this year! Grattis!

After frukost, it's time for our environmental learning. We gather in family groups, named after famous people in Sverige's history (Vasa, Munsö, Bernadotte, Sverker, Stenkil, Kalmar). The name of this activity is called Vår Värld (Our World).

Meet familjen Kalmar!

Next is Gott och Blandat. We do something a little different in this activity. Today we went over the Swedish alfabet, talked a bit about the history of Sjölunden, and everyone got a CLV visa, which is a little green book to record our experiences here this summer. In this book, villagers wrote down goals for the two weeks at Sjölunden.

Here is what it looks like--

Now it was time to have our first language groups, called språkundervisning.

Meanwhile, the studenter pluggar, pluggar, pluggar! (pluggar means study)

Today was the first day for Intresse--these are activities we sign up for that last 4-5 days.

Simon börjar på sin dalmålning.

Simon gets started in Dalmålning. This is a folk art from the central part of Sweden--the province of Dalarna.

Bea is working on a frame with dalmålning on the sides.
Ylva and Erica painted their background colors today.
Fiaspelet is similar to a board game we play in the U.S. called Sorry.

Här träffas kören för första gången!

Here the choir meets for the first time!

FN Gruppen

Our UN Simulation delegation for International Day

This is the stickning or knitting group which meets on the veranda of the new weaving stuga.

Let's see what the segling intresse is up to!

Aftonsamling starts at six o'clock. As we take the flag down, we always sing Sveriges nationalsång, "Du Gamla du Fria."

One of the ways we get everyone to quiet down is to put our hands up like this--reminding students, "What does a moose say?" The answer? "They say nothing."

Our food presentation tonight had a theme of children's stories.

We had a fabulous meal of chicken & rice and . . .

. . . ice cream sandwiches for dessert! Mums!

Tonight's kvällsprogram was called "Let's Dance." In Sweden, there is a TV-program just like our "Dancing with the Stars" where celebrities along with expert dancers compete. Our Sjölunden version of celebrities was, of course, our own ledare like Rasmus here.

The competition required two styles of dancing . . . Weinervals och Bugg! Each couple learned the basic steps in the matsal while the rest of the village learned the line dance our village will do for International Day. Liv, Maja, and Evy helped teach the steps . . . .

. . . but each couple was allowed to improvise.

Now it was time for the BIG moment. The judges were introduced. They were Körsbär Kajsa, Emilia, and Mikaela.

It was very exciting to stand next to our hostess, Evy, and wait to hear the comments from the judges.

Vad tycker ni? frågar Magda och Simon?

All the couples did a great job! At the end of the program, the Sjölunden villagers were asked to show the judges their own line dance--just learned tonight!

Check out the many faces of Martin!

Do you think we are impressing the judges?
It looks Elli has no doubt that she and Marie-Katrin will win tonight's competition.

However, just before the verdict was announced, it was time to sing "God natt Sjölunden."

Vilken härlig dag!!!!!

What a fabulous day!!!!
