Today, the 31st of July, brought so many special activities. Vatten Moomba was a water celebration with several of the other villages on our lake. It was also Elins namnsdag and Birgitta's birthday. Today's phrase was "Jag orker inte!" This means that I am out of energy. |
Får vi presentera NILS ARMSTARK? Han ska resa ut i rymden.
Allow us to introduce Mr. Nils Armstark (literal translation of Neil Armstrong). He's on his way into space. |
In order to succeed, he is told by NÄSA (NASA, but a joke for näsa means "nose" in English), that he needs to dring a lot of mjölk! |

Söta Malin...
Our cutie, Malin... |

At flag lowering, the mini-Olympic events competition is still continuing. Magda showed how many times she could keep the soccer ball up in the air.
Kerstin squared off against her. |
I wonder who the credit girls might be cheering for??? |
In order to go to Stockholm, our dining hall, to eat, sometimes Martin asked if there is anyone who is hungry and if so, to show it. The credit boys were pretending they were entering the walking competition in the Olympics. |
The story of Nils Armstark continued at lunch. This time he had met aliens on the moon who were very hungry but confused. Every time they invited Nils to eat something, they had written the letters of each of the food items backwards, so Nils, with the help of his friends at the table, had to taste a little of everything to figure out the real name for each type of food was. |
Look what Nils figured out! If you unscrampble all the letters ROKAKNNAP, it is obviously PANNAKOR is on the menu tonight.

"Mums," säger Angela! "Jag älskar pannkakor!"

A round of applause to all who helped with the entertaining food presentations today! |
Because it is Thursday today, we ate pea soup and pannkakor. |
Before the kvällsprogram, we did a spontaneous line dance called Irritationsmomenten.

The evening program was a simulation of the medeltiden (Middle Ages) and what happened with the outbreak of the plague (pesten). Villagers went around in family groups from various countries in Europe. As they wandered, they met people with the plague who sometimes passed it on. Their job was to survive!

Some villagers even had to carry chairs around the entire evening to symbolize that people in that time carried virtually their entire lives (all their belongings) with them as they wandered.
Some of the families who came from countries where the plague hadn't struck yet lost fewer family members than others.
The families had to be careful that there weren't banditer (bandits) hiding in the bushes ready to steal belongings.

The dansbana represented a church where nuns and monks were available to try to "cleanse" plague victims. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't.

When it didn't, those inflicted were "escorted" to Snickeboa, which represented the place of the dead.

It wasn't supposed to be fun in this place where Emilia played the gatekeeper. What a costume! Robban tries to bargain with her. Somehow they had fun here too!

Finally, the villagers made up their own fun by singing song such as "Vem kan segla." |
The debriefing was awesome. It was clear that the villagers understood cultural, sociological, and spiritual ramifications of the times and shared some outstanding observations. Many villagers thought this was the best kvällsprogram yet.
