La Francophonie : “La Francophonie” is one of Camp Holiday’s two collines (“hills”). On the hill are eight of the camp’s sixteen cabins. The cabins on “Franco” are all named after French-speaking cities outside of France (anywhere from Yaoundé, Cameroon to Baton Rouge, Louisiana!) and have a capacity of about ten villagers and two monos (counselors). The cabins are simple and rustic with bunkbeds, small placards (cupboards) for the villagers’ possessions, and no electricity! The cabin is usually the first place villagers will get to know other people at camp, so cabin life is a very special part of the Lac du Bois experience. It is also in the cabins that villagers get a good opportunity to share their feelings and talk about their days at Lac du Bois—each cabin has “cabin counsel” right before bed, which is a time for villagers to share, in English, both the “bonnes choses” (good things) and “mauvaises choses” (bad things) about their day.
