She has taught Spanish for nine years in the West Des Moines Community School District and traveled to Spain and Mexico many times throughout her life. She is excited to be back at to El Lago del Bosque for a fifth summer.
El ProgramaAs credit staff, we have been working hard to provide a positive learning environment, to motivate villagers to constantly practice their Spanish and to continue learning culture and language in our immersion environment. Generally, our schedule includes the following: every day there are three encuentros, during which time the students meet with their teachers and classmates to participate in the day’s lessons.
TalleresWe are continuing a tradition from Oak Hills by offering talleres (workshops). Each villager chooses two talleres for the summer. Our staff has planned some great activities for their talleres. The talleres are similar to elective classes in that the villagers choose two themes that interest them, and in their talleres they learn about the theme and practice the Spanish that they have been learning in their encuentros. They attend their workshop every other day. This year we are offering Culinaria del Perú, Cuba, El Cine, Cambios Climáticos, Campismo, Hispano hablantes en los Estados Unidos and Multimedia.
Nuestro DíaIn the morning along with the three encuentros, all villagers have canto (singing). Additionally, there is a study hall/portfolio period in the afternoon. There are also three meals, where villagers enjoy culturally authentic food prepared by our excellent kitchen staff. In the afternoon all villagers participate in a cultural or athletic activity, which supports what the villagers learn in their aulas (classrooms). Throughout the day and evening villagers participate in culturally relevant activities in Spanish to support and to practice their pronunciation and listening comprehension.
La noche en ELdBAfter dinner, the villagers participate in a cultural or educational Programa de Noche (evening program), where they learn new information and continue to practice their Spanish. Once a week instead of evening program they have an extended Estudio Dirigido (directed study) at night, where they work on homework and receive additional individualized attention from credit staff. To help the villagers relax, we have Café after Estudio Dirigido, where we offer an evening snack and beverage. This is a time when they can chat with fellow students and staff, snack, and unwind from a busy week of activities, classes, and learning MUCHO ESPAÑOL.
We are convinced that we have an excellent group and would like to thank you very much for your support. It is our pleasure and privilege to be working with your children.
Sincerely,
Lisa “Alicia” Leventhal Sobotka Kerisa “Kika” Baedke Credit Curriculum Facilitator Dean |
