¡BIENVENIDOS!

El Lago del Bosque

This is the web page for the aldeanos of El Lago del Bosque during the second half of the 2004 summer. El Lago del Bosque is the largest of the Concordia Language Villages, because Spanish is so widely taught and spoken in the United States. The uniqueness of the Spanish Language Village setting is that we have staff members who come from around the Spanish-speaking world, representing Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile and many more countries. The program reflects this intermingling of staff and Hispanic culture in exciting and diverse ways. You may be served an asado argentino (Argentine barbecue) one evening and a taquería mexicana the next. Music is at the heart of the Spanish Language Village, and everyone finds themselves being drawn into the rhythmic songs and dynamic dances, from el tango to la salsa.

We offer an array of activities including periodismo (journalism), culinaria (cooking), fútbol (soccer) and swimming. Art projects may vary, but you could have the opportunity to make azulejos (tiles), canastas (baskets) or ojos de Dios (God's eyes). The authentic architecture of the Bemidji site provides a great backdrop for the daily telenovelas (soap opera skits). You’ll have the opportunity to make cerámicas (pottery) and we often end the day with singing around a beautiful fogata (campfire) in our on-site amfiteatro (amphitheatre). Join us for a tour of the Spanish-speaking world and you’ll be surprised at how many lifelong friends you’ll make during your stay at El Lago del Bosque!

Villagers at El Lago del Bosque range in age from 7 to 18 years old. Villagers entering 9th through 12th grades can choose between a two week program session, tertulias, a month-long session, crédito, for high school credit, and a month-long session, crédito universitario, for college credit. It doesn't matter if you're a principiante who doesn't speak any Spanish at all, or an avanzado who is practically fluent―there is a place for you at El Lago del Bosque.
