Teacher Seminars & Professional Development

Do you have to be a current world language teacher in order to enroll in the Teacher Seminars course?

It is not a requirement to be currently teaching. However, the course will be especially meaningful if you are currently teaching or have taught in the past. Current and past classroom experiences give you a frame of reference for discussions and assignments.

Are the seminars conducted in English?

Yes, the seminars attract teachers of all world languages so the classes are conducted in English.

Where do we live?

You will be housed in Linden Suites, a newly-renovated dorm on the campus of Bemidji State University. The dorm is configured into two- or three-person air-conditioned suites with a shared bathroom for each suite. You will have a private bedroom space with a twin bed. Towels and bedding are provided. There is wireless Internet, though it is helpful to bring an ethernet cable if you have one. The dorm is located across the street from Lake Bemidji.

Will we spend time at the Language Villages?

During your stay in Bemidji, you will spend time at the Language Villages, located 10 miles outside of Bemidji, where you will have the opportunity to interact in the languages you speak. Transportation will be provided for these visits.

Where and what do we eat?

Meals are served family style and snacks are provided throughout the day. While we eat most of our meals together on the Bemidji State University campus, some meals are enjoyed at one of our Language Villages. A continental breakfast is served every morning, lunch at 12:15 p.m., and dinner at 6 p.m. The chefs are hired by Concordia Language Villages and serve a varied international menu. Our kitchen staff will take you on a culinary journey throughout the world. Past participants rave about the food and often write down recipes before they return home!

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

If you have food allergies, are vegetarian, or have other special dietary needs, just let us know. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice to educators@cord.edu. Our chefs will be happy to provide authentic and delicious meals that suit your needs.

When can we check in and out of the dorm?

The program generally begins on a Sunday evening, so check-in is available anytime on Sunday. If you need to arrive on Saturday, please contact us to make special arrangements. Generally the program ends the following Wednesday. Your room is confirmed through the last day of the program; you can check out the following morning.

What is the deadline for applying to the Teacher Seminars?
