          1.  Passport Fund Application

When is the deadline for the Passport Fund Scholarship application?

Applications for the summer will be available in December. The application deadline is February 20, 2019.

Who is eligible?

Youth residential sessions are eligible for a scholarship. High School Credit Abroad, Adventure Day Camp, Family, and Adult sessions are not eligible for a Passport Fund scholarship.

How do I apply for a scholarship?

You will need to register for a session and complete the application found in the Forms and Documents section of the parent portal. For more detail, follow steps in this guide or watch this video

Can I pay a reduced deposit?

Yes, see chart below. You will not be able to complete the reduced payment online as the system defaults to a $300 deposit. Please mail a check or call 800-222-4750 ext. 1 with payment information.

One-Week Session Two-Week Session Four-Week Session
$125 $175 $300

Can I fill out a paper copy (parent)?

We strongly suggest that you use the online application process. It is easy to complete, you are able to see what has been completed and what needs to be finished.  If you are absolutely unable to complete the application online, you may fill out a paper application. Please send an email to scholshp@cord.edu to make sure we received the application.

Can I fill out a paper copy (group/student coordinator)?

Yes! If you are with an organization that sends a student or groups of students, please email scholshp@cord.edu for a scholarship form for your group.

I have more questions. Who should I contact?

For scholarships questions, please email  scholshp@cord.edu. For payment questions, please email clvfinance@cord.edu.

     2.  Passport Fund Awards

When will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship?

Award letters are emailed early April. The letter will include the following information: 1) if you have or have not been awarded a gift, 2) the amount of the gift and 3) a return form to accept or decline the award.

What do I do if I am not awarded a scholarship?

You have multiple options. If you are unable to attend due to financial reasons, you may want to pursue other scholarship opportunities listed under Additional Scholarship Options on our website. You can consider attending a one-week session, if you had registered for a two or four-week session. The money you have already paid is transferrable to a different session within the same summer, or to a family member if that person is attending during the same summer. We offer monthly payment plans through our Finance department. The final option would be to cancel your registration. If you cancel within two weeks of the receipt of your award notification, we will refund all payments that have been applied for the current summer session. Any cancellations after the deadline will be subject to our cancellation policies.

What if I am unable to attend the session that I have received the scholarship for?  Is the scholarship transferrable?

Scholarships are non-transferrable. This includes transferring scholarships between languages, between years, and between family members. Some scholarships can be transferred between sessions in the same language during the same summer. Please contact scholshp@cord.edu to discuss your options if you must change sessions.

Can I receive a full scholarship through the Passport Fund?

No. It is our policy to award no more than 90% of the cost of the tuition. Transportation costs are not covered by the Passport Fund.

How much money is awarded for a scholarship?

A typical scholarship covers no more than 30% of the cost of tuition. However, this varies by language.

Who awards Passport Fund scholarships and how do you decide?

The application will only be reviewed by the members of the scholarship committee of the Concordia Language Villages and information provided with the application will be kept completely confidential. Passport Fund scholarships are based on financial need. Need is determined through a calculation that considers family size and adjusted gross income (AGI). Special circumstances are also noted. Typically, families with an AGI of $60,000 or less are considered first. An awarding committee meets in March and discusses each individual application.

How do I increase my chances of being awarded a Passport Fund Scholarship?

Read and follow the application guidelines carefully. Consider languages with smaller programs such as Arabic, Finnish or Korean. If you received a scholarship last year, make sure you’ve sent us your thank you letter.
