When will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship?

Award letters are mailed in April. The letter will include the following information: 1) if you have or have not been awarded a gift, 2) the amount of the gift and 3) a return form to accept or decline the award.

What do I do if I am not awarded a scholarship?

You have multiple options. If you are unable to attend due to financial reasons, you may want to pursue other scholarship opportunities listed under Additional Scholarship Options on our website. You can consider attending a one-week session, if you had registered for a two or four-week session. The money you have already paid is transferrable to a different session within the same summer, or to a family member if that person is attending during the same summer. We offer monthly payment plans through our Finance department. The ability to make monthly payments may make it more affordable for some families. The final option would be to cancel your registration. If you cancel within two weeks of the receipt of your award notification, we will refund all payments that have been applied for the current summer session. Any cancellations after the deadline will be subject to our cancellation policies

What if I am unable to attend the session that I have received the scholarship for?  Is the scholarship transferrable?

Scholarships are non-transferrable. This includes transferring scholarships between languages, between years, and between family members. Some scholarships can be transferred between sessions in the same language during the same summer. Please contact scholshp@cord.edu to discuss your options if you must change sessions.

Can I receive a full scholarship through the Passport Fund?

No. It is our policy to award no more than 90% of the cost of the tuition. Transportation costs are not covered by the Passport Fund.

How much money is awarded for a scholarship?

A typical scholarship covers no more than 30% of the cost of tuition. However, this varies by language.

Who awards Passport Fund scholarships and how do you decide?

Passport Fund scholarships are based on financial need. Need is determined through a calculation that considers family size and adjusted gross income (AGI). Special circumstances are also noted. Typically, families with an AGI of $60,000 or less are considered first. An awarding committee meets in March and discusses each individual application.

Are there scholarships available other than Passport Fund Scholarships?

There are additional language specific scholarships available. View a list of additional scholarships.

How do I increase my chances of being awarded a Passport Fund Scholarship?

Read and follow the application guidelines carefully. In your essay, indicate how much money you need. Consider languages with smaller programs such as Arabic, Swedish, Finnish or Korean. If you received a scholarship last year, make sure you’ve sent us your thank you letter.

Why am I having trouble submitting my online application?

Many students are applying to our scholarships simultaneously. Our best advice is that you submit your application early to avoid service disruptions due to high traffic. You may consider submitting your application in the early morning or late evening to avoid periods of high web traffic. Please note that there are no exceptions to the application deadline.

I have more questions. Who should I contact?

For scholarships questions, please email  scholshp@cord.edu. For payment questions, please email clvfinance@cord.edu.

How can I contribute to the Passport Fund Scholarship?

Donations can be made by visiting ConcordiaLanguageVillages.org/giving. Gifts can be made through individual, capital fund, planned, corporate and foundation giving. Thank you for your generosity.

Can I work at camp to subsidize my child's attendance?

Every summer we hire parents to help us in a variety of positions; in exchange, a discount is deducted from your child’s tuition. If you would like to be considered for a position, you should apply by filling out an employment application.
