Endowed Funds

Endowed funds can be established to support Concordia Language Villages in perpetuity. While the principal continues to grow in the fund, only a portion of the interest is used for annual awards. Many endowed funds are for scholarships named in honor of current or former staff members and villagers. Other endowed funds support our staff in various ways such as developing their professional skills and traveling from afar to share their skills with our villagers.

If you would like to learn more about our endowed funds, please contact us at 1-800-222-4750, ext. 808 or clv@cord.edu.

Featured Endowed Funds for 2009

1. David Erceg Endowment for Food Service Staff Development
David Erceg began his 23 year career with Concordia Language Villages in 1980 as head cook of Waldsee Vergas. In that summer, he changed the concept of food service at Concordia Language Villages. Instead of pizza, hot dogs, and gelatin, villagers ate Rouladen, Wiener Schnitzel, and Rehrücken. Now, David is known as the one who introduced culturally authentic cuisine into the Language Villages cultural immersion philosophy. As food service manager, not only did David give the program ethnic meals, but he gave the cooks the tools to create them: cookbooks, authentic ingredients, and state of the art kitchens.

In honor of David and his far-reaching influence, a memorial endowed fund known as the David Erceg Endowment for Food Service Staff Development was established in October 2003. The income from this endowment assures that the food service staff at Concordia Language Villages have professional development opportunities for generations of cooks to come.  Individual awards support internships at ethnic restaurants, education at baking and culinary schools domestically and abroad as well as family stays abroad to give our cooks culturally authentic experiences while studying. The endowment gains also bring us additional resource materials, guest speakers and scholarships for cooking staff.

2. Denise Phillippe Endowment for Program Staff Development
Denise's passion is human development. She excels at working with people and helping them reach their full potential.

To honor Denise's 25 years of work at the Language Villages, we are establishing the Denise Phillippe Staff Development Endowment. The vested annual interest from this endowment will enable Village staff to avail themselves of opportunities to continue their education as Language Villages staff members. Your contribution of any amount, as a multi-year pledge if you so desire, will help us reach our endowment goal of $5000.
