Chinese Youth
Sēn Lín Hú is the name of the Chinese Language Village.
At Sēn Lín Hú, you’ll learn Mandarin Chinese in a traditional summer camp setting. Language classes are tailored to learners of all ages and stages. Whether you’re looking for an early introduction or an intensive language program, we’ll meet your level of language and help you to advance during a 1, 2 or 4 week session.
When you arrive, you will go through customs, choose a new Chinese name and make a personalized nametag, meet your counselors, and find your cabin. You’ll have your own bunk for your sleeping bag and pillow, as well as a place to store your clothes and other belongings.
Our counselors will help you exchange dollars for Yuan to use in the Village store. They’ll also help you learn new words and phrases that will help you to make new friends, locate activities, play Chinese games, sing Chinese songs, and explore your newly-discovered, Chinese-speaking world.
You will be with other kids your own age who also have an interest in making new friends, trying new things, and learning Mandarin Chinese. Your Chinese immersion experience will be different from every classroom you’ve ever been in. You will completely change your surroundings and learn by doing.
Learn the graceful movements of martial arts such as gonfu (kong fu) or taìjíqúan (Tai Chi). Enjoy celebrating traditional Chinese holidays such as duanwujie (dragon boat festival) and poshuijie (water festival). China’s rich history and diverse cultural traditions come alive through shufa (calligraphy), làrǎn (batik) or zuocài (Chinese cooking).
At Sēn Lín Hú, you’ll also have many opportunities to swim, canoe, play soccer, sing Chinese songs and learn more about traditional and modern Chinese music, play chess, and try a variety of arts and crafts. At Sēn Lín Hú, we never get bored!
