Concordia Language Villages, a program of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., in collaboration with the American Indian Studies Department (AIS) of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, has been awarded a Minnesota Indian Affairs Council 2010 Dakota and Ojibwe Language Revitalization Grant to support the development of educational programs in Dakota language.

The mission of the grant is “To protect and empower our children, parents, and elders in the continuing development of our language, thus maintaining Tribal Sovereignty.” In alliance with this mission, our project is rooted in the principle of All My Relatives, or We Are All Related and centered around the theme - Strengthening Oneself Through the Dakota Language.

• A follow-up weekend language teaching workshop. December 17-19, 2010, Marine on St. Croix, Minn.
• Two intergenerational Dakota language immersion weekends (for up to 40 participants each). February 25-27, 2011 and April 15-17, 2011, Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota.
