Norwegian Rosemaling Workshops

This program is conducted in English.

Norwegian Rosemaling comes to life as participants learn about the culture and design motifs that define this traditional artform. Folk tales of Norwegian Nisse and gnomes intertwine with lessons on color and design during the workshop. Participants will learn to paint the intricate patterns and floral designs of this beautiful Norwegian art form. Various styles and sessions are offered for beginning, intermediate and advanced participants.

Participants are encouraged to bring any paints and brushes they normally use, as well as their own woodenware to paint upon. Surfaces for painting should measure at least 8" high and 12" long or 16" round. Paint, brushes, and wood shall be provided for those who have none.

Meet your instructors

June Nyberg, Wis., will offer instruction at all levels in both oils and acrylics for Nisse, Norwegian folklore, and border painting. June has been rosemaling for 37 years and is a long-time instructor of the Villages and the North Country Arts and Crafts Program.

Lodging
Lodging and meals are included in your tuition price as part of your stay at beautiful Skogfjorden. Meals are served in the upper level of the dining hall and offer Norwegian cuisine and atmosphere. Time for relaxing nature walks and good conversation over bottomless pots of coffee make this retreat a wonderful opportunity to concentrate on the art and culture of Norway.
