The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United States, Dr. Klaus Scharioth, will visit the German Language Village, Waldsee, near Bemidji, Minn., on Monday, July 23, 2007. Ambassador Scharioth will be accompanied on his tour of the Waldsee BioHaus and interaction with young Waldsee participants from around the nation by State Auditor Rebecca Otto and the director of the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, Susan Heegaard.
The construction of the Waldsee BioHaus, a one-of-a kind environmental learning center, was made possible primarily through funding from Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, the German Environmental Foundation which is the largest foundation in Germany. This innovative residential/educational facility, which uses 85 percent less energy than comparable U.S. buildings, was constructed by local Minnesota contractors and is the first North American facility certified to PassivHaus standards of green construction. It recently received the 2007 Minnesota Environmental Initiative Award.
The media are invited to talk with Ambassador Scharioth at 4:30 on July 23 at Waldsee German Language Village, 9550 Ruppstrasse NE, Bemidji, MN. Please R.S.V.P to Annette Kirchner at kirchner@cord.edu or call (218) 299-4916 by 5 p.m. Friday, July 20, if you plan to attend.
