Excellence in German Instruction
Because the German Language Village, Waldsee, is an outstanding leader in the teaching of German language and culture, the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) has designated Waldsee as an official Center of Excellence for the teaching of German. This competitive program involves an application for acceptance and a designation as a national center of excellence, particularly at the elementary and middle school levels. Through this program, the AATG seeks to encourage schools and teachers to plan and implement strong middle school German programs that would then articulate into high school programs. This initiative is intended to recognize "exemplary programs [that] are willing to promote the study of German [by serving as] models."
Waldsee is the ninth such Center of Excellence to be named since the program’s inception. Criteria for designation include having a well-established German program with strong enrollment; evidence of self-evaluation; rich and meaningful cultural offerings; strong support from parents, colleagues, and administration; good teacher-student ratio; clearly articulated sequence of instructional program; and culturally and age-appropriate materials and classroom routines.
