Weekend Activities
A typical day at Collegetown
The Collegetown experience is entirely in English and includes fun, engaging, stimulating, and educational activities and sessions throughout the entire week. During the weekdays, participants spend much of the morning hours in a more-structured, language-learning environment. These sessions include both large group and small group sessions, and are referred to as “language groups”. In the afternoon hours, participants are involved in activities, field trips, and excursions that extend and reinforce the language sessions of that week (called “activity groups”). For instance, during the first week, participants learn about the game of baseball – we learn the rules of baseball, we play a kickball game using baseball rules, we watch a movie about baseball, we talk about baseball in American culture, and we finish the week attending a professional baseball game. We also want to provide you with time to reflect on your experience, and set goals for yourself within the program. These types of experiences are typically done in our “core groups” sessions. Below, you will find a schedule for a typical kind of week in Collegetown.
*Evening activities vary and include social events such as ‘miniature golfing’ or American bowling, or might be focused time such as a ‘Starbucks Study Session’, or quiet reading in Core Groups.
Weekend Schedule
Events on the weekends reinforce weekly topics from class in a fun, energizing way. For example one weekend will include a Red Hawks Baseball game outing, and another weekend will be spent in nature at Itasca State Park. Because Collegetown participants are “out and about” on Saturdays, dinner is usually eaten off campus and out in the community.
