Cathy Smith
Cathy 史凯 (Shǐ Kăi) Smith is also a licensed Spanish language teacher and works with our Spanish Pre-K program, Jardĺn de niños, and our Chinese Pre-K program, Mínghuì Yòuéryuán. She has worked since 1996 with our Chinese Language Village Sēn Lín Hú.
Shǐ Kăi and her family lived in Beijing for 2 years, and all 3 of her children are bilingual Chinese-English speakers. She has worked extensively on curriculum development for Chinese for elementary and high school settings. She and her husband often lead Chinese immersion programs during the academic year, including Family Weekends, Family Weeks, and Village Weekends for school groups.
She received her Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Grinell College. She has traveled extensively through Mexico, Spain and Guatemala, where she has also resided for a longer period of time. She has taught Spanish in several districts in Wisconsin for six years, as well as in White Bear Lake and West Saint Paul, Minn. She has also worked as a volunteer teacher in the Head Start program in Bayfield, Wis.
