She attended St. Olaf College and toured the Orient with the choir in 1986. She graduated with majors in Norwegian and Psychology.
Kari Berit has been to Norway on several occasions. She studied a semester at the University of Oslo, taught at Sons of Norway's "Camp Norway" in Sandane, Norway, and has led three Elderhostel and adult groups, two for Concordia Language Villages.
Kari Berit has been involved in the Norwegian Elderhostel/Adult programs with the Villages since 1989. This love for teaching Elderhostel students drove her to return to school and receive a Master of Science degree in continuing and vocational education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1995. There, she conducted research with Elderhostel participants and pulled together themes of what makes good teachers of older adults.
