A Weekend in Waldsee

Published: August 7, 2017

Our weekends in Waldsee are normally ein bisschen anders (a little different). Here’s what we did this weekend!

A Day with Lesnoe Ozero!

Published: August 5, 2017

Yesterday we celebrated a day with Lesnoe Ozero, the Russian camp. After lunch, they arrived at Waldsee and the festivities got started with a simulation debating whether or not Deutschland (Germany) should send Lenin back to Russia after the February Revolution. The LKTs (four week villagers) from Waldsee and all of Lesnoe Ozero took part in the simulation in two different groups: one in the Gasthof (dining hall) and one in the BioHaus. The group in the Gasthof decided not...

Martin Luther Day

Published: August 4, 2017

Yesterday, we spent our day learning all about Martin Luther and the 30 Years War. Of course, we didn’t do this by sitting in a lecture hall and listening to the facts. Instead, we lived them.

The LKT Programm

Published: August 3, 2017

Our LKT Programm (High School Credit Program) is probably one of the things that we are most proud of here at Waldsee. In just four short weeks, high school students can earn a year’s worth of high school language credit. Learn a bit more about the program in this blog post!

Schweizer Tag!

Published: July 27, 2017

Switzerland might be best known for its cheese, chocolate, and mountains. But what else does Switzerland have? Four official languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh! Although Concordia Language Villages doesn’t have a Romansh village, it does have villages for the other three languages. Once a year, we all come together to celebrate die Schweiz (Switzerland)!

While Germany may not be associated with artists very often, there are actually a great many artists that come from German-speaking countries. During Künstlertag (artists’ day), we celebrated that!

In Germany, Walpurgisnacht (Walpurgis Night) is a celebration of the coming of spring… and it might just involve some witches as well. Here in Waldsee, we celebrated Walpurgisnacht the only way we know how - with an Abendprogramm (evening program)!

Ein Sturm in Waldsee

Pause in Waldsee

Published: July 20, 2017

Pause (break time) is arguably one of the villagers’ favorite times of the day. Although Familie (small language learning group) and Veranstaltungsstunde (activity hour) are fun, there’s nothing like getting a half hour to sit back, relax, and pig out on all of the candy they can buy. Read this post to find out more about what villagers can do during the Pause.

After a hectic Ankunftsag (arrival day) here in Waldsee, everyone was excited to being a normal day the following morning. We ate Frühstück (breakfast), sang songs at Gesang, and so much more!
