Alumni Spotlight: Clara
Published: March 26, 2020
As we gear up for the 60th summer at Waldsee, get to know some long-time members of the Waldsee community! This week, meet Clara! Clara first came to Waldsee in 2006, and she has spent fourteen summers with us. Starting out as a one-week villager, Clara has spent four weeks with our high school credit program and has served as a counselor and a business manager ever since.
How did you find out about Waldsee?
My parents wanted me to learn German because they thought my dad might get deployed to Germany, and they found out about Waldsee online.
What made you come back to Waldsee year after year?
The whole experience. I don’t remember a time when I didn’t eagerly anticipate going to Waldsee. Getting to choose a new name (yes, I did have 8 different names as a villager), learning German in fun ways from cool counselors, and living with people for the summer with similar passions as me are only some of the reasons I keep coming back.
What do you look forward to the most each year?
I always look forward to reuniting with my friends, eating Schnitzel on Ankunftstag (arrival day), and singing Waldsee Lieder (songs)!
What's something that's different now than your first year at Waldsee?
I didn’t go to International Day until my seventh summer at Waldsee, and now it’s one of the highlights of my summer! The Biohaus was just being built my first summer, and now it’s one of the most recognizable buildings on site.
What's your favorite Waldsee Lied (song)?
Roter Mond or Applaus Applaus
Best snack at Cafe Einbeck?
Can we change this question to Waldsee Cafe?? Because in that case, my answer would definitely be Rüblitorte (Swiss-style carrot cake).
Meet Clara and other members of the Waldsee community from throughout the years at our 60th Anniversary Alumni Weekend, July 17-19!
