Alumni Spotlight: Christoph

Published: January 9, 2020

As we gear up for the 60th summer at Waldsee, get to know some long-time members of the Waldsee community! This week, meet Christoph! Christoph has come to Waldsee as both a camper and a counselor since 2011. He has held a number of roles at Waldsee, most notably serving as the Bankmeister (bank master) and leading announcements and cheers throughout the day with his incredibly loud voice.

Cluedo!

How did you find out about Waldsee?

My mom originally found out about it through her German circles in her career, and she brought me along with her when I was younger to come check it out! Little did I know I'd still be here a decade later.

What made you come back to Waldsee year after year?

I come back because of all of the amazing bonds that I've made with other counselors and campers. Some of my closest family and friends are people that I originally met at Waldsee. I also love other aspects of Waldsee, such as being outdoors, cooking and baking staff's food (like cake!), and just being in a totally different atmosphere than other places I have ever been.

What do you look forward to the most each year?

Every year, I look forward to interacting with all the campers at the Bank, where I get to test their language skills by goofing around and asking them silly questions. I also always look forward to Schnitzel every other week on Ankunftstag (arrival day), as it's my favorite meal.

What’s something that’s different now than your first year at Waldsee?

Something that's different now has to be how comfortable I feel at Waldsee, as it's one of those special places to me now. Transforming from a scared, crying kid to the super loud, boisterous, and (depending on the Abendprogramm -- evening program) dress-wearing counselor that I am now is something I'm proud of.

Pause

What's your favorite Waldsee Lied (song)?

My favorite Waldsee Lied has to be Abendstille, followed closely behind by every single other song except for Ein Bisschen Regen.

Best snack at Cafe Einbeck?

My favorite snack is now, and forever will be, the Ritter Sport chocolate with the biscuit inside.

Sonst noch was? (Anything else?)

One of my all-time favorite moments was leading the “Bahnhof Gasthof Marktplatz” song for the first time and practically destroying my vocal chords.

Meet Christoph and other members of the Waldsee community from throughout the years at our 60th Anniversary Alumni Weekend, July 17-19!
