Family Week Day 1

Published: June 11, 2019

Family week has officially begun! This is such a special time for everyone at Salolampi and we couldn't wait to get the ball rolling.

The day began with the arrival of our families!

Matti, Saga, and Sofia greet the first villagers to arrive.
Checking in and finding their mökki for the week.

Once settled into a cabin, it was time for nimilappu  (nametag) making!

So creative!
Tilda working hard on her nimilappu.

Then it was time to make a currency exchange at the pankki (bank). There will be lots of ice cream buying this week!

From dollars to euros.
Kati's got the hang of things at the bank.

After dinner, it was time for the children and adults to go there separate ways. The kids went out to the piha (yard) to play some games while the adults visited with Iida, the dean of Salolampi.

The kids got a kick out of the games!
Meeting with Iida to go through the upcoming week's schedule.

To close out the evening, villagers walked down to the nuotio (bonfire). Around the fire, families and counselors sang songs, reminisced on past Salolampi  experiences, and took in the beautiful view.

Admiring the sunset!
Getting animated while singing!

Interacting with a colorful array of generations gives us the opportunity to teach and learn in new ways every day. We can't wait to see where the rest of the week will take us! We hope you follow along!
