We are getting closer to the end both two seesions and the camp this summer at all which is certainly sad but we still have many things to do and many words to learn.
This afternoon we have a guest blog post from our “exchange students”. Six of our two-week villagers are taking part in a homestay simulation, in which they are American students studying Russian and living in St. Petersburg with a host family.
Today is an important milestone for all of us who are somehow connected with this place, Lesnoe Ozero - Concordia Russian Language Village. Today we are celebrating 50th anniversary of the village.
In the evening villagers met at St. Petersburg divided by families and learnt how to greet each other in languages of the Central Asian region. Each family visited various stations, where they learnt about Central Asian and Russian history and geography, sang a Kazakh song, tried different Eastern dances, and picked up a few Tadjik phrases
New arrival are always a joy for us. And despite a cloudy and windy weather today new villagers have lightened the camp with their smiles and enthusiasm.
Today we woke up very excited because we had spend all day at Lac de Bois and Waltsede to celebrate International Day!
This day was fulfilled with fun, from our last classes of the day, to our banquet and disco this evening. As we are getting closer to the end of two week program and the middle of the four week program two-weekers are working on finishing their projects while credit program villagers are preparing for the middle-term tests.
Today we celebrated the Republic of Tuva. It is a part of the Russian Federation that lies in the geographical center of Asia, in southern Siberia, and is the home of three of our staff members this year.
We are getting closer and closer to the middle of the first two-week program and the International Day so the classes are becoming more intensive and complex.

The second day of the Family and One-Week program was marked with new Russian experience, new dishes, new impressions, and new friends.
Sadly, today was our last full day of camp at Lesnoe Ozero this summer. The villagers attended their last classes and last activities, and began saying goodbye to all of the friends they have made this summer. In many of the classes the villagers reviewed everything that they have learned up until now, and it is amazing how far they have come! During the day, all the villagers received Azərbaycan manatı (currency from Azerbaijan) for a special program this evening. After our singing activity in the afternoon, the villagers went back to their cabins to change into nice clothes for a simulation of dinner at an Azerbaijani restaurant.
This morning the two-week villagers had their last lessons, while credit students took midterm exams. In the two-week program, we were sad to conclude our classes, but happy that the villagers have learned so much over the past two weeks. Espionage was the theme of our evening program tonight. While most of the staff and villagers were innocently watching a video, one of our counselors, Sasha, had his yellow baseball cap stolen! Sashsa wasn’t sure who it was, but he narrowed it down to five suspects. In order to reveal the identity of the thief, groups of villagers had to complete puzzle and memory games.
Today we celebrated the Republic of Tuva. This Russian republic is located in Central Asia and the south of Siberia, and is the home of five of our staff members this year. This evening the villagers were able to try traditional Tuvan dance, watch videos of Tuvan wrestling, listen to Tuvan throat singing and even practice lassoing horses on the Siberian steppe.
Today we welcomed new villagers to Lesnoe Ozero! There were many familiar faces, but quite a bit of new ones as well. When they arrived, the villagers went through customs, where they spoke with the counselors in Russian to pick new names and exchange their dollars for rubles. Then everyone had a chance to see their new cabins and explore the village, before learning some Russian folk songs and eating борщ (borsht) for dinner. Our evening program today...
Today was our last full day of this summer's first session at Lesnoe Ozero. Everyone wrapped up their lessons and finished their cultural projects. Due to the sunny weather, the villagers were finally able to go swimming in the lake during free time. Today was the first full day of camp, and the day was full of fun and exciting activities. This morning the villagers began the day by singing the Russian national anthem and eating каша (oatmeal) for breakfast. The students were sorted into their lesson groups, and during урок (lesson) we learned how to introduce ourselves in Russian.
Today marked the beginning of this summer’s Russian-learning adventure! The first families and one-weekers arrived this afternoon and went through customs, during which they chose a Russian name and were assigned to their family and коттедж (cabin)
Today was the last full day of camp. The students were happy to have a morning to watch Чёрная Молния, a contemporary Russian film. The two-week students spent part of the morning reviewing what they learned and preparing short videos for closing program. Once they finished their projects, they all gathered to watch the popular Russian cartoon Маша и Медведь before lunch.
