August 17th, 2018 - Happy New Year!
Published: August 17, 2018
Colorful, twinkling lights. Snowflake decorations all over St. Petersburg. A fir tree adorned with even more decorations. You guessed it - New Years! This winter holiday is beloved by Russian-speakers, and our participants had the chance to experience some of the traditions, but not without a talent show! For our evening program, villagers signed up to showcase their talents to the camp. We even had special guests, including Ded Moroz, ( Russian santa), Sneguracka, (Ded Moroz’s granddaughter and helper), and even Baba Yaga arrived to watch the performances! Following our delightful talent show, we had a banquet filled with traditional Russian foods and many toasts with sparkling apple juice. In Russian culture, toasts are constantly made around the holiday table, and tonight was no exception. There’s still one hundred and thirty six days until New Year’s day, but we had a blast getting into the holiday mood a little bit earlier than usual.
