Journée d'Ouverture

Published: June 12, 2017

Bonjour !  (Hello!)

We welcomed our first villagers of the summer yesterday! La Journée d'Ouverture  (opening day) is meant to simulate arriving in another country; each villageois (villager) receives a passport, chooses a French name, and makes an etiquette (nametag).  Villagers also stop by la banque to trade in their dollars for euros and sign up for free time activities during the week.

After a delicious dinner of chicken and rice, baguette, salad, and gâteau au chocolat (chocolate cake), villageois toured the Lac du Bois site to better understand day-to-day logistics.  They learned how to set the table, be safe on the beach, and how to buy candy at Sucré Cœur.  At the feu de camp (campfire), we ended the day with French songs under a starry sky.

To new friends and new foods,

-Eliénore
