Opening Day: 2nd Edition!!!
Published: August 7, 2018
Marhaban bikom! Welcome back to Al-Wāḥa!
Today, we had our second Opening Day! Woot woot! That meant a brand new crew of two-week villagers! However, the counselors were excited to see many familiar faces back at Al-Wāḥa this year for the next two weeks!
During Opening Day, arriving villagers started off at the registration table, where they picked out their Arabic name and received a village jawaz al-safar (passport), among other things.
After going through customs and visiting the nurse, villagers then headed to the bitaqa (nametag) station, where they wrote their name on their bitaqa, decorated it, glued the daily schedule to the back of it, and picked out a colored string to turn the bitaqa into a wearable and mega-fashionable accessory.
Next, they headed to the masraf (bank) to deposit their US dollars. When they later decide to purchase items from the dukkan, they will head back to the masraf and request some money, which will be given to them in Jordanian dinars for use in the dukkan.
After going to the final Opening Day station, which was a language placement test, villagers headed to their buyoot (cabins) to meet their counselors and to come up with a cabin chant! Later, we headed to Al-Quds, our dining hall, to present our chants and eat dinner.
Following dinner, we held our evening program, which, for the day, was a jawla (tour) led by our credit villagers.
Finally, we concluded the day by the campfire!
