a baqlaawa recipe

Published: June 27, 2019

One of the perks of being an Arab is the delicious homemade desserts! My mom was recently making some baqlaawa, a dessert made chiefly of filo dough, walnuts, butter, and sugar, and I decided to follow her along her dessert-making journey! Here is a simple baqlaawa recipe, for your baking pleasure:

the main ingredients: filo dough, walnuts, and a stick of unsalted butter!

walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, or a mix of nuts can be used!

blend the walnuts!

add two tablespoons of sugar (cinnamon and coconut can also be added)

melt a stick of butter in the microwave

line the bottom of your pan with melted butter

take two sheets of filo dough together and fold them in half

lightly cover the folded sheets with butter and add walnuts to the top

roll up the filo dough sheets

place your rolled sheets in the pan

cut across the rolls and drizzle with butter

place the pan in the oven at 350 degrees until the filo dough is a light golden brown

finally, drizzle with syrup (3/4 cup water, 1 tsp squeezed lemon, 1 tsp vanilla extract)!
