German Adult Virtual Discussion Circles offer a rewarding intellectual experience through participation in a real-time interactive small group setting. The Gesprächskreis offers an introduction to German literature (short stories, novellas, novels). To prepare for our meetings, each week participants will read an average of 10 pages – auf Deutsch!
Sessions meets for six Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. over Zoom. The average instructor to participant ratio is 1:8.
If your German could use some practice, consider spending an hour a week this summer reading and discussing texts in your field with a small circle of other academics:
|Day of the week||Theme|
Read and discuss texts with themes from theology and the history of religions.
Read and discuss texts by Schopenhauer, Nietzsche and other great German thinkers.
|Wednesdays|| Literary German
Read and discuss classics of 19th- and 20th-century German literature.
Read and discuss historical and biographical works in German.
Read and discuss scholarly texts from disciplines such as linguistics and anthropology.
Sessions meet on their designated day from 1-2 p.m. If a session falls on a holiday or for some other reason cannot meet, it will be rescheduled for another date and time.
Each meeting will feature different German reading material, with readings outside of the session time being approximately 10 pages.
